Balancing Luxury Storytelling with Seamless Conversion
The Little Nell partnered with Verndale to evolve its digital experience into a more effective luxury-hospitality platform, with equal emphasis on brand storytelling, seamless booking, and long-term platform scalability.
This work was not just a website refresh. It combined UX strategy, CRO learning, information architecture validation, content and module refinement, and forward-looking platform planning for The Little Nell as the first hospitality brand site on Aspen’s new shared foundation.
The Challenge
The Little Nell serves a high-intent, high-expectation audience that already sees the property as best-in-class, so the digital experience needed to feel as elevated and thoughtful as the on-property experience itself.
At the same time, the site had to do more than inspire. It needed to support practical commercial goals like room bookings, events, adventures, and share of wallet, while also helping users move quickly through content and decisions.
The UX challenge was balancing luxury storytelling with efficiency. Existing pages and modules often leaned too heavily on dense copy, unclear findability, or dated patterns, creating friction for users who wanted both inspiration and fast task completion.
Our Approach
Treat the site like a digital front desk
1
Verndale framed the site as a digital extension of The Little Nell’s concierge-level service, with a goal of making room booking and experience discovery feel more seamless and personalized.
Ground decisions in research and experimentation
2
The work was informed by multiple sources: competitive benchmarking, onsite strategy sessions, CRO experimentation learnings, site audits, Hotjar review, and a formal card-sorting effort to validate a new information architecture.
Improve wayfinding and content hierarchy
3
A major focus was helping users find what they needed more seamlessly and quickly. That included navigation refinement, clearer labeling by intent, more consistent display of primary actions, and a new sitemap structure shaped by end-user input.
Balance luxury expression with scalable platform thinking
4
The Little Nell was positioned as the pilot implementation for Aspen’s new multi-site CMS foundation, so UX and component decisions were made not only for one property but for how patterns would scale across future hospitality brands and locations.
Where Vision Meets Execution.
The Little Nell is a strong example of Verndale bringing luxury UX, conversion strategy, and platform thinking together in a high-expectation hospitality environment. The work was not just about refreshing pages. It was about creating a more intuitive, more elevated, and more scalable digital experience that could better support bookings, events, and guest engagement while setting the pattern for future Aspen Hospitality properties.
-
The experience strategy centered on making the site feel both artful and usable, treating each page as a storytelling surface and a conversion surface at the same time.
Navigation and IA work focused on labeling functionality by user intent and improving wayfinding across the explore, evaluate, and book journey.
Accommodations and About content were identified as opportunities to reduce dense copy and introduce more photography, modular structures, and clearer calls to action earlier in the page.
Design recommendations also addressed accessibility and usability details, including text-over-image treatments, search placement, and updates to global modules like the footer.
The brand direction stayed rooted in The Little Nell’s “time well spent” positioning, emphasizing personal, artful, and effortless luxury rather than generic upscale hospitality cues.
-
CRO experimentation was used to test UX changes such as navigation iconography, mobile value propositions, and accommodations layouts, with documented revenue impact and learning carried into design decisions.
Hotjar and analytics were part of the process for identifying friction points and understanding engagement behavior on the site.
The platform roadmap established The Little Nell as the first site on Aspen’s new shared foundation, with scope including approximately 20 components, 6 to 8 templates plus homepage, global navigation, footer, booking widget, and multi-property structure for Aspen and future NYC expansion.
This made technical execution a strategic lever, not just a delivery function, because component and IA decisions for The Little Nell would help define how later hospitality properties scale across the system.
-
The Little Nell is Aspen’s only Five-Star, Five-Diamond ski-in, ski-out hotel, making digital expectations especially high for the brand.
The property serves a 92-room luxury hotel and residences model, with repeat, multi-generational loyalty shaping both the audience and UX strategy.
Verndale ran structured CRO experiments across The Little Nell and related Aspen Hospitality properties, testing UX changes with documented revenue impact and learnings.
Verndale also conducted a formal card sort to evaluate and improve The Little Nell’s navigation structure, and the results were described as very successful, with an 80% success benchmark and strong performance from the outset.
The Little Nell was selected as Phase 2 and the first full brand site built on Aspen’s new shared CMS and design-system foundation.
Planned build scope included approximately 20 components, 6 to 8 templates plus homepage, and a multi-property structure that could support both Aspen and a future New York City location.
